15% Surge in Calcium Carbonate Prices in India to $109 per Ton

India Calcium Carbonate Import Price in June 2023

In June 2023, the price of calcium carbonate in India reached $109 per ton (CIF, India), marking a 15% increase compared to the previous month. However, over the review period, the import price experienced a slight decline. The import price reached its peak at $147 per ton in August 2022, but from September 2022 to June 2023, it remained at a lower level.

Prices varied significantly depending on the country of origin. Malaysia had the highest price at $144 per ton, while Egypt had one of the lowest prices at $74.0 per ton.

Between June 2022 and June 2023, Jordan experienced the most significant price growth at 1.0%, while the prices of other major suppliers declined.

In June 2023, calcium carbonate imports into India decreased significantly to 50,000 tons, a decline of 28.3% compared to the previous month. Overall, imports experienced a sharp contraction, with the highest growth rate recorded in March 2023 at 32% month-on-month.

In terms of value, calcium carbonate imports plummeted to $5.4 million (IndexBox estimates) in June 2023. Imports, in general, witnessed a substantial downturn, with the most notable growth rate observed in March 2023 at 31% month-on-month.

India Calcium Carbonate Imports by Country

Egypt, Vietnam, and Malaysia were the main suppliers of calcium carbonate imports to India, accounting for a combined 93% share of total imports. Between June 2022 and June 2023, Vietnam saw the highest increase among the major suppliers, while purchases from other countries declined.

In terms of value, Egypt, Vietnam, and Malaysia were the largest suppliers of calcium carbonate to India, comprising 78% of total imports. Jordan accounted for an additional 4.9% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Jordan witnessed the highest growth rate in terms of import value over the review period at -5.8%, while purchases from other leading suppliers declined.
