In June 2023, China exported approximately 1K tons of yams, showing an 11% increase compared to May 2023. Overall, yams exports from June 2022 to June 2023 displayed a moderate growth trend, with an average monthly increase of +3.8% over the last twelve months. However, there were noticeable fluctuations throughout this analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, exports declined by -2.2% compared to March 2023. The most rapid growth occurred in November 2022, with a month-to-month increase of 28%.

In terms of value, yams exports from China contracted to $2.1M in June 2023. Over the reviewed period, total exports exhibited a moderate growth rate from June 2022 to June 2023, with an average monthly increase of +3.5%. Similar to the volume trend, there were noticeable fluctuations during the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, exports decreased by -19.2% compared to March 2023. The most rapid growth took place in July 2022, with a 45% increase from the previous month.

Exports by Country

The main destinations for China's yams exports were the United States (210 tons), the Philippines (198 tons), and Malaysia (169 tons) with a combined share of 56% of total exports.

Between June 2022 and June 2023, the Philippines experienced the highest increase in yams exports from China with a CAGR of +28.4%, while other leading destinations showed more modest paces of growth.

In terms of value, the United States ($546K), Malaysia ($344K), and Japan ($331K) were the largest markets for yams exported from China, accounting for a combined 58% share of total exports. The Netherlands, Canada, Singapore, and the Philippines followed closely with another 17% share.

Regarding export prices, the yams price in June 2023 was $2,057 per ton (FOB, China), indicating a -19.4% decrease compared to the previous month. The export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern, with the highest growth rate occurring in July 2022 at 31% increase from the previous month. Prices varied across countries, with Canada having the highest price at $3,395 per ton and the Philippines having one of the lowest at $346 per ton.

From June 2022 to June 2023, Canada experienced the most notable rate of price growth with +2.6%, while other major destinations showed more modest growth rates.
