May 2023 Sees Slight Drop in U.S. Aircraft Launching Gear Exports, Reaching $9.2M

U.S. Aircraft Launching Gear Exports

During May 2023, the United States exported approximately 78 tons of aircraft launching gear, deck-arrestor, or similar gear and parts thereof, representing a growth of 9.7% compared to the previous month. However, overall exports experienced a significant decrease. The most notable increase in exports occurred in March 2023, with a 147% rise from the previous month.

In terms of value, aircraft launching gear exports declined slightly to $9.2M in May 2023, according to estimates by IndexBox. Overall, exports registered a substantial contraction. The highest rate of growth was observed in March 2023, with a 119% increase compared to the previous month.

Exports by Country

Australia received the largest share of aircraft launching gear exports from the United States, totaling 35 tons and accounting for a 45% share of total exports. Export volume to Australia was four times higher than that of the second major destination, Egypt (8.9 tons). Ireland ranked third, receiving 8.7 tons and holding an 11% share.

From May 2022 to May 2023, the monthly growth rate of exports to Australia averaged +24.7%. Other major destinations such as Egypt (+70.3% per month) and Ireland (+6.1% per month) also experienced positive growth rates.

In terms of value, the largest markets for aircraft launching gear exported from the United States were Australia ($2.4M), France ($1.8M), and Malaysia ($1.4M), together constituting a 61% share of total exports. Denmark, Ireland, Egypt, South Africa, Japan, and India accounted for an additional 21%.

South Africa showed the highest growth rate in terms of export value, registering a CAGR of +43.7% during the reviewed period, while the other leading destinations experienced more modest growth rates.

Export Prices by Country

In May 2023, the export price of aircraft launching gear was $118K per ton (FOB, US), reflecting a decrease of -10.1% compared to the previous month. Overall, the export price witnessed a noticeable reduction. The most significant price increase occurred in December 2022, with a 367% rise compared to the previous month, reaching a peak of $482K per ton. However, from January to May 2023, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Export prices varied significantly depending on the destination country, with Malaysia ($595K per ton) displaying the highest price, while South Africa ($42,809 per ton) had one of the lowest average prices.

From May 2022 to May 2023, Nigeria recorded the most notable price growth (+35.4%) among major destinations, while other countries experienced more modest price increases.
