Chili and Pepper Prices in Mexico Decrease to $1,659 per Ton

Mexico Chili and Pepper Export Price in April 2023

The price of chili and pepper in Mexico stood at $1,659 per ton in April 2023, representing a decrease of 12.2% compared to the previous month. Although the export price showed a relatively flat trend overall, there was a significant growth rate of 19% in February 2023. The export price reached its peak at $1,890 per ton in March 2023, but declined in the following month.

Notably, the average prices varied among major foreign markets. In April 2023, the United States and Canada both had an average price of $1,659 per ton for chili and pepper exports from Mexico.

Between April 2022 and April 2023, the United States experienced a slight growth rate of 0.5% in terms of prices for chili and pepper imports from Mexico.

Mexico Chili and Pepper Exports

In April 2023, the exports of green chilies and peppers from Mexico plummeted to 100,000 tons, indicating a significant drop of 15.6% compared to the previous month. Although exports displayed a slight decline overall, there was a sharp increase of 32% in December 2022.

In terms of value, chili and pepper exports from Mexico fell sharply to $165 million in April 2023 according to IndexBox estimates. However, there was a notable growth rate of 39% in December 2022.

The United States remained the primary destination for chili and pepper exports from Mexico, accounting for 98% of the total exports with 98,000 tons. Canada followed with a 2.1% share and 2,100 tons.

Between April 2022 and April 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume to the United States was -1.8%.

In terms of value, the United States dominated the chili and pepper exports market with $162 million, comprising 98% of total exports. Canada ranked second with a 2.1% share, amounting to $3.4 million.

Between April 2022 and April 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to the United States was -1.3%.
