In June 2023, sunflower seed imports into Mexico experienced a sharp increase, reaching 3.4K tons, a 49% growth compared to the previous month. Overall, imports showed strong growth, with the most rapid expansion occurring in March 2023, with a 162% increase from the previous month. June 2023 marked the peak import figure during the review period.

In terms of value, sunflower seed imports skyrocketed to $3.8M in June 2023, according to IndexBox estimates. Import growth continues to indicate a robust expansion, with the highest rate recorded in July 2022, when imports increased by 121% compared to the previous month.

Argentina (1.6K tons), the United States (1.4K tons), and Bulgaria (339 tons) were the main suppliers of sunflower seed imports to Mexico.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the United States experienced the largest increase with a CAGR of +14.9%, while the growth of other major suppliers was more moderate.

In terms of value, the United States ($1.8M), Argentina ($1.6M), and Bulgaria ($471K) were the largest sunflower seed suppliers to Mexico.

Among the main suppliers, the United States recorded the highest growth rate in the value of imports with a CAGR of +11.9%, while the growth of other leaders was less pronounced.

Import Prices by Country

In June 2023, the price of sunflower seeds stood at $1,138 per ton (CIF, Mexico), showing an 18.6% decrease compared to the previous month. The import price saw a slight decline during the review period, with the highest rate of growth observed in November 2022, when the average import price increased by 27% month-to-month. From March 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained somewhat lower.

Average prices varied among the major supplying countries, with Bulgaria having the highest price of $1,391 per ton, while Argentina had one of the lowest prices at $973 per ton.

From June 2022 to June 2023, Argentina experienced the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices with a decrease of 1.0%, while the prices for other major suppliers showed a decline.
