Record-High Adhesive Bandage Prices in Mexico Surge to $57.7 per Kilogram

Mexico Adhesive Bandage Import Price in April 2023

In April 2023, the price of adhesive bandages in Mexico reached $57,651 per ton (CIF, Mexico), showing a 12% increase compared to the previous month. Overall, the import price experienced significant growth, with the most rapid increase occurring in March 2023, where the average import price rose by 463% month-on-month. The import price peaked in April 2023.

There were notable differences in average prices among the major supplying countries. In April 2023, the United States had the highest price at $67,121 per ton, while China had one of the lowest prices at $15,145 per ton.

From April 2022 to April 2023, Colombia witnessed the most significant price growth at 3.9%, while the prices from other major suppliers experienced mixed trends.

Mexico Adhesive Bandage Imports

In April 2023, adhesive bandage imports into Mexico declined sharply to 266 tons, representing a decrease of 30.2% compared to the previous month. Imports continued to contract over the review period, with the most rapid growth occurring in February 2023, where imports increased by 452% compared to the previous month, reaching a peak of 1.5K tons. From March 2023 to April 2023, import growth remained at a lower level.

In terms of value, adhesive bandage imports dropped rapidly to $15M (IndexBox estimates) in April 2023. Overall, imports followed a relatively flat trend, with the highest growth rate recorded in March 2023 at 44% month-on-month. Imports reached a peak of $20M and then sharply declined in the following month.

Mexico Adhesive Bandage Imports by Country

In April 2023, the United States was the largest supplier of adhesive bandages to Mexico, accounting for 75% of total imports with 199 tons. The United States exceeded the second-largest supplier, China, by sixfold with 36 tons of imports.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly volume growth rate from the United States was -1.7%. The remaining supplying countries had the following average monthly volume growth rates: China (-5.6% per month) and Germany (2.0% per month).

In terms of value, the United States constituted 87% of total adhesive bandage imports to Mexico with $13M, followed by Germany with a 4% share at $609K.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value from the United States stood at +1.4%. The remaining supplying countries had the following average monthly value growth rates: Germany (-0.5% per month) and China (-8.0% per month).
