Record Low Whisky Prices of $1.8 per Litre in Qatar

Qatar Whisky Import Price in June 2023

In June 2023, the price of whisky in Qatar reached an all-time low of $1.8 per litre (CIF, Qatar), showing a significant decline of -24.9% compared to the previous month. This decrease marks a noticeable reduction in import prices. The import price experienced its highest growth rate in September 2022, with a staggering 116% increase month-to-month, reaching a peak level of $8,100 per thousand litres. However, from October 2022 to June 2023, the average import prices remained relatively lower.

As Qatar primarily relies on one major whisky supplier, India, the average price level is heavily influenced by Indian prices.

Between June 2022 and June 2023, the rate of price growth for Indian whisky imports to Qatar was -1.2% per month.

In June 2023, whisky imports to Qatar showed signs of recovery as they reached 70K litres for the first time since March 2023, ending a two-month declining trend. However, overall imports continue to experience a sharp decline. The highest growth rate in imports occurred in March 2023, with a 252% increase compared to the previous month. During the review period, imports reached their peak of 233K litres in October 2022, but remained at a lower figure from November 2022 to June 2023.

In terms of value, whisky imports significantly dropped to $125K in June 2023, according to IndexBox estimates. This represents a considerable decline in imports. The most pronounced growth rate in value occurred in March 2023, with a 393% increase compared to the previous month. Imports peaked at 1.6M litres in September 2022, but remained at a lower figure from October 2022 to June 2023.

India was the main supplier of whisky to Qatar in June 2023, accounting for approximately 100% of total imports with 70K litres.

Between June 2022 and June 2023, the average monthly volume growth rate for whisky imports from India to Qatar was -5.0%.

In terms of value, India was the largest whisky supplier to Qatar with $125K worth of imports.

Between June 2022 and June 2023, the average monthly value growth rate for whisky imports from India to Qatar stood at -6.1%.
