Japan Molybdenum Export Price in July 2023

In July 2023, the price of molybdenum in Japan reached $100K per ton (FOB, Japan), indicating a significant decrease of -34.5% compared to the previous month. Despite this, the export price exhibited a relatively stable trend during the review period. The most noteworthy growth occurred in November 2022, with a remarkable 45% increase from the preceding month, resulting in a peak export price of $190K per ton. However, from December 2022 to July 2023, the average export prices remained lower.

Average prices varied among the major export markets. South Korea held the highest price in July 2023, reaching $121K per ton. Conversely, the average export price to Taiwan (Chinese) amounted to $84,513 per ton.

The most significant price growth in terms of export supplies to South Korea was observed from July 2022 to July 2023, with an increase of 1.3%.

In July 2023, Japan witnessed a surge in molybdenum exports, with a volume of 4.8 tons, representing a remarkable increase of 147% compared to the previous month. However, the overall trend for exports indicated a significant descent. The most rapid growth was observed in December 2022, with a staggering 5,277% month-on-month increase.

In terms of value, molybdenum exports reached $480K (IndexBox estimates) in July 2023. Despite this, overall exports experienced a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was most significant in December 2022, with a 3,127% month-on-month increase.

Japan Molybdenum Exports by Country

Among the main destinations for Japan's molybdenum exports were Taiwan (Chinese) with a volume of 2.9 tons, South Korea with 1.8 tons, and the Philippines with 82 kg. The Philippines exhibited the highest growth rate of -0.4% from July 2022 to July 2023, while shipments to the other leading countries experienced a decline.

In terms of value, Taiwan (Chinese) ($247K), South Korea ($215K), and the Philippines ($17K) were the largest markets for Japan's molybdenum exports. Of these, the Philippines experienced the highest value growth rate with a CAGR of +1.0% among the main countries of destination during the review period, while shipments to other leading markets declined.
