Spain Pineapple Imported at an Average Price of $941 per Ton in June 2023

In June 2023, the pineapple price amounted to $941 per ton (CIF, Spain), which remained relatively stable compared to the previous month. The import price experienced a minimal change over the period under review, with a significant increase of 10% month-on-month observed in April 2023, reaching a peak of $960 per ton. However, from May 2023 to June 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum, showing a flat trend pattern. The average prices of pineapples varied among the major supplying countries. Portugal and Costa Rica had the highest prices at $994 per ton and $936 per ton, respectively, while France and Panama had comparatively lower prices at $797 per ton and $832 per ton, respectively. During the period from June 2022 to June 2023, Portugal witnessed a slight growth rate of 0.2% in terms of prices, while the prices of other major suppliers showed mixed trend patterns. The imports of pineapples into Spain declined significantly to 15,000 tons in June 2023, marking a notable decrease of 16.2% compared to May 2023. The imports demonstrated a relatively flat trend pattern, except for a notable growth rate of 38% in May 2023 compared to the previous month. In terms of value, pineapple imports decreased significantly to $14 million in June 2023. The imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern, with the highest growth rate of 36% observed in May 2023 compared to the previous month. However, the value of imports fell rapidly in the following month. Costa Rica dominated as the largest pineapple supplier to Spain in June 2023 with a 77% share of total imports, followed by Portugal (1.8K tons) with a much lower share. Panama held the third position with a 5.5% share of total imports. In value terms, Costa Rica accounted for 76% ($11 million) of total pineapple imports, followed by Portugal ($1.8 million) with a 13% share. Panama had a 4.9% share. Costa Rica maintained a relatively modest average monthly growth rate in volume and value. Portugal showed an average monthly growth rate of 4.2% in volume and 4.5% in value. Panama had an average monthly growth rate of 1.5% in volume and 1.2% in value during the period from June 2022 to June 2023.
