Slight Drop in Price of Brassieres in South Africa to $1.8 per Unit

South Africa Brassiere Import Price in May 2023

In May 2023, the cost of brassieres in South Africa was $1.8 per unit (CIF), showing a decrease of 12.4% compared to the previous month. The overall import price experienced a small decline. The most significant growth rate was observed in August 2022, with a 155% month-on-month increase, reaching a peak import price of $4,663 per thousand units. However, from September 2022 to May 2023, average import prices remained relatively lower.

There were variations in average prices among the major supplying countries. In May 2023, Indonesia had the highest price at $2.2 per unit, while China had a price of $1.6 per unit.

China experienced the most notable price growth rate from May 2022 to May 2023, with a decrease of 1.3%.

South Africa Brassiere Imports

In May 2023, South Africa's imports of brassieres made of textile materials, with or without elastic, decreased by 0.9% to 1.1 million units. This decline marked five consecutive months of reduced overseas purchases. The fastest growth rate in imports occurred in September 2022, with a 3,109% increase compared to the previous month, reaching a peak of 2.3 million units. However, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum from October 2022 to May 2023.

In terms of value, brassiere imports in May 2023 were estimated to be $1.9 million. Overall, imports showed a noticeable reduction, with the highest growth rate recorded in September 2022 at 1,407% month-on-month increase, reaching a peak of $5.1 million. The growth of imports remained at a lower figure from October 2022 to May 2023.

South Africa Brassiere Imports by Country

In May 2023, China was the main supplier of brassieres to South Africa, accounting for 93% of total imports with 997,000 units. China's brassiere imports were more than ten times higher than the second-largest supplier, Indonesia, which supplied 46,000 units. The average monthly growth rate of volume from China showed a decrease of 3.7% from May 2022 to May 2023.

In terms of value, China constituted the largest supplier of brassieres to South Africa, representing 87% of total imports with $1.6 million. Indonesia held the second position with a 5.5% share and $103,000 in imports. The average monthly growth rate of value from China showed a decrease of 4.9% from May 2022 to May 2023.
