U.S. Imports of Leather Sports Gloves Decrease by $23M in May 2023

In May 2023, the United States imported approximately 3.2 million units of leather sports gloves, mittens, and mitts, showing a 20% decline compared to the previous month. Overall, imports indicate a slight contraction, with the most significant growth observed in January 2023. Imports reached their peak at 4.2 million units in October 2022, but remained lower from November 2022 to May 2023.

The value of leather sports gloves imports in May 2023 was $23 million, a slight decrease during the review period. The highest rate of growth occurred in September 2022, with a 13% month-to-month increase. Imports reached a record high of 31 million units in October 2022, but failed to regain momentum from November 2022 to May 2023.

Imports by Country

In May 2023, Indonesia was the largest supplier of leather sports gloves to the United States, accounting for 47% of total imports. Vietnam followed as the second-largest supplier with double the figures of Indonesia, and Thailand held the third position with a 17% share.

From May 2022 to May 2023, Indonesia showed relatively modest monthly growth, while Vietnam and Thailand had average monthly growth rates of +4.6% and -5.3%, respectively.

In terms of value, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand were the major suppliers to the United States, comprising a combined 71% share of total imports.

Import Prices by Country

In May 2023, the import price of leather sports gloves was $7.2 per unit, showing a 21% increase compared to the previous month. The import price demonstrated a relatively flat trend overall, with the highest growth recorded in December 2022. The highest price belonged to the Philippines, while Indonesia had one of the lowest prices.

From May 2022 to May 2023, India had the most significant price growth, while other major suppliers experienced more modest increases.
