In June 2023, Germany exported approximately 154 tons of pastels, drawing charcoals, and drawing chalks, experiencing a decrease of -12.3% compared to the previous month. The export trend has remained relatively flat during the period under review, with the most rapid growth occurring in November 2022, reaching a peak of 197 tons. However, from that point onwards, the exports flattened until June 2023.

The value of drawing chalk exports surged to $2M in June 2023, according to IndexBox estimates. Overall, the export trend has remained relatively flat, except for a notable growth rate of 50% in January 2023.

The main destinations for Germany's drawing chalk exports were Poland (39 tons), France (24 tons), and Austria (11 tons), which accounted for 48% of total exports.

From June 2022 to June 2023, France experienced the highest growth rate in terms of shipments among the main destinations, with a CAGR of +2.4%, while the other leading countries showed mixed trend patterns.

In terms of value, Poland ($336K), France ($283K), and the Netherlands ($241K) were the largest markets for drawing chalk exports from Germany worldwide, collectively representing a 43% share of total exports.

Among the main destinations, the Netherlands recorded the highest growth rate in the value of exports, with a CAGR of +4.3% during the review period, while the other leading countries showed more modest growth rates.

Export Prices by Country

In June 2023, the export price of drawing chalk from Germany stood at $13,017 per ton (FOB). It experienced a significant increase of 71% compared to the previous month. From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly increase in export price was +1.6%, reaching its peak level in June 2023.

Export prices varied by the country of destination, with the Netherlands having the highest price of $26,537 per ton, while Slovenia had one of the lowest average prices at $8,421 per ton.

During the review period, the Netherlands saw the most notable growth rate in export prices, with a +4.3% CAGR, while the other major destination countries showed more modest growth rates.
