In July 2023, South Africa witnessed a notable resurgence in its imports of aluminum tubes and pipes, reaching 73 tons for the first time since April 2023. This ended a two-month period of decline in imports. However, overall, the imports still show a significant reduction. The most significant growth rate was observed in December 2022, with a month-on-month increase of 1,034%.

In terms of value, the import of aluminum tubes soared to $273K (according to IndexBox estimates) in July 2023. Nevertheless, there was an overall contraction in imports. The main suppliers of aluminum tube imports to South Africa in July 2023 were Turkey (32 tons), Poland (29 tons), and China (10 tons). These three countries accounted for 97% of the total imports.

Between July 2022 and July 2023, Poland showed the highest increase with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of +6.1%, while the other leading suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In terms of value, Poland held the largest share of South Africa's aluminum tube imports with $142K, constituting 52% of the total imports. China stood in the second position with $49K, representing an 18% share.

Between July 2022 and July 2023, the average monthly growth in import value from Poland was +5.6%, while China experienced a monthly decrease of 16.0% and Turkey had a slight monthly decline of 0.5%.

Between July 2022 and July 2023, China experienced the most notable price increase of 2.8%, while the prices for other major suppliers showed mixed trends.
